Maremma Guardian Dogs
Maremma’s are a solid, muscular breed of Livestock Guardian Dogs originating in the
Maremma region of Italy. They have a thick white coat, black nose and dark, intelligent eyes. They typically weigh between 65-110 pounds and are 23-29 inches high.
Despite their large size, Maremmas can be wonderful companion animals if you live in an area with a lot of wide open spaces.
Because they have been bred for years to be gentle with lambs but fiercely protective of their flock, this has created a breed that bonds well to families.
We introduced our dogs to the flock when they were about 10 weeks old.
The dogs are now approaching 1 year old and are learning to work independently of each other although they prefer to work together. Our breeding program will start in 2009.
We will have 2 bloodlines represented, both with parents and grandparents imported from Italy.
